Before getting into the actual discussion let’s see a few questions if they resonate with you.
👎Do you after posting pictures of you on social media constantly keep checking your phone for comments and likes?
👎Do you after writing a whole paragraph of resentment, delete it thinking what will the other person think about me?
👎Do you before taking a job worry about what will society, family, friends think about me?
👎Do you value yourself on how many social media followers you have?
👎Do you place your decisions on the goals, desires of others, and not what you want?
What worse in this is that it makes you feel guilty. It makes you realize how long you had been suppressing yourself!
But suppress yourself for what? From now on no more following people. Let’s learn to take control of our lives and stop giving a f*ck about others.
Ah, Adin what do you mean by nobody cares about you?
Let me explain it to you by the 18/40/60rule .
- When you are 18, you worry about what everybody is thinking about you.
- When you are 40, you don’t give a darn about what anybody thinks of you.
- When you turn 60, you realize nobody’s been thinking about you at all.
Suprise Suprise Suprise!
We are not that great that people will constantly, think about us. Most of the time, people are thinking/worrying about themselves (not you). If at all, they think about you, they are wondering what you are thinking about them. People think about themselves not you.
When we haven’t observed our ego, it takes the driver’s seat in our lives. It creates a steady stream of stories in the mind. These stories create an emotional response in the body. The emotional response in the body creates behaviors. Behaviors are practiced responses to thoughts.
Practice them enough, + we call this “personality.” Why are so many of us so tired, drained, and bewildered by our life experiences? There’s many answers to this. One of those answers is that our ego is obsessed with perception management. It desperately wants to be liked, validated, plus feel right. We live in a state of fear. Afraid of criticism. Afraid of being judged. Afraid of someone believing the core belief we inherited from trauma; that we are not worthy.
Our soul is unconcerned with perception. It seeks alignment. Our truth. It seeks to express fully regardless of the insecurities this brings up from those around us.
The soul is quieter than the ego. It’s patient. The soul will wait for as long as you need to start listening. As long as you need to wake up from the sleepwalking unconscious haze we believe to be life.
Conclusion: Think about it – All the time you are wasting worrying about what other people think about your goals, your clothes, your hair, and your home could all be better spent on thinking about and doing the things that will help you achieve your goals.
You need to base your decisions about what you want to do on your goals and desires, not on the goals, desires, opinions, and judgment of your parents, friends, spouse, children, and coworkers.
What is the mere point of life, if you are only living under people’s expectations?
